When I returned to his school at the end of the day, I retrieved him from the school's office. The very sweet secretaries told SJ that they would miss him next year. I could feel myself tearing up as we walked out the school doors for the last time.
As we were walking to my car, I asked SJ once again if he was sad. He looked at me like I asked him the strangest question ever. "Why would I be sad?," he replied. "Because this was your last day here," I said.
That was okay, because I was sad enough for both of us. I couldn't believe six years have gone by so fast. Even more unbelievable, I am now the mom to two junior high students.
